Police had blocked off Jenkins Street in the Town of Peru Wednesday afternoon. According to State Police, around 2:06 p.m. they arrived at a home on Jenkins Street in the center of Peru to conduct a welfare check, and found a woman dead inside the residence.

PERU — A woman was found dead inside a Peru home Wednesday afternoon, setting off a major investigation by police.

According to State Police, around 2:06 p.m. they arrived at a home on Jenkins Street in the center of Peru to conduct a welfare check, and found a woman dead inside the residence.

Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie confirmed that it was a homicide investigation. The name of the victim was not yet released.

State Police is asking anyone who lives on Jenkins Street or the surrounding area to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity.

If anyone has any information regarding this incident they are asked to call State Police at 518-563-3761.

Police said the incident does not appear to be a random act of violence and there was no ongoing threat to the community.

Joining State Police in the investigation were the Clinton County District Attorney’s office, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, state Department of Environmental Conservation Police, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and local fire and emergency services.

No other details had yet to be released.
