Peru, Saranac open T&F seasons with strong performances

PERU — With the official kick off of the track and field season, the Nighthawks performed admirably well in both the boys and girls events.

The Peru boys defeated Saranac Lake, 100-32. The Nighthawk girls mirrored the boys with a 97-35 win over the Red Storm.

Sawyer Schlitt continued to show his speed as he won the 100, 200 as well as winning as part of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.

Alex Watts showed Peru was strong not just in the short, but long distance runs as well. He won the 1600 and 3200 events, while also being a part of the 4x800 relay.

The Nighthawks saw multiple winners in Michael Welc, Ryan Squire, Nick Petro, Elliot Supley, Oliver Lancto and Owen Tedesco.

Welc won the 800 and joined Watts, Squire and Petro on the 4x800 relay. Squire also claimed the 400.

While winning the 400 hurdles, Tedesco claimed the win in the 4x400 with Lancto, Petro and Schlitt. Lancto claimed the height in the high jump with Elliot Supley winning the throws.

Liam Nobles won the only events for the Red Storm as he claimed victories in the 110 hurdles, long jump and triple jump.

On the girls side, Maddy Welc and Eliana Trumper showed their hard work in the distance events. Both were part of the 4x800 relay teams while Trumper won the 1500 and Maddy Welc won the 3000.

Fellow Nighthawk Maggie Garrow joined the multiple wins club as she won the 100 dash and the high jump. Lauren Davey took wins in the hurdle events, the 100 and 400.

Saranac Lake’s Michaela Gillis won two of her team’s three events in the 200 and long jump. Cora Hotchkiss grabbed the other victory taking the win in the discus.

SARANAC — It was a solid all around effort for the Spartans where they won all but four events between the boys and girls meets.

On the boys side Andrew Denial, Zander Daniels and Connor Homburger led the way with winning three events each. Denial was part of the 4x800 relay team and also won the 3200 and 800.

Daniels was the fastest in the 100, and also a part of the 4x100. He also claimed the farthest jump in the long jump.

Homburger was a part of two winning relay teams in the 4x100 and 4x400. He also took the longest leap in the triple jump.

Damian Lannon joined in the multiple event capture for Saranac winning the 110 hurdles and joining Homburger on the 4x400 relay team.

Winisha Steele-Michael made sure it wasn’t a complete Spartan sweep as she claimed the 100 and 200 top spot for the girls.

Jaelynn Lacey and Elizabeth Chase also claimed victories for the Hornets in the high jump and 800, respectively.

Outside of those events, it was all Saranac. Kaitlynn Rabideau showed her versatility as she was part of all three of the relays.

Eve Liberty and Sarah Lavigne joined Rabideau on two of those: the 4x100 and 4x400.

Maddy Wynnik joined the trio on the 4x100 and also took home the win in the long jump.

The 4x800 and 400 hurdles saw a familiar face win the event in Sienna Boulds.

Hannah Hamel also doubled down in victories with the 100 hurdles and 400.

The throws went to Macey Heuer who threw for a distance of 28’5” in the shot put and 79’9” in the discus.

CLINTONVILLE — It was all Beekmantown in the multi school meet for girls track and field on April 11.

In the three school meet, the Eagles had a strong output against the Cougars and Patriots.

Ava McAuliffe showed she’s one of the fastest in the section as she won the 400, 200 and was a part of the 4x400 relay team.

Kylie Bishop continued to show that she’s one to watch in the throws as she claimed the win in the discus and shot put with ease.

Lexi Clark kept the Beekmantown pressure on with wins in the 4x100, and long jump. Olivia Drowne took home wins in the 4x800 and 800.

NCCS’ Holly Visconti joined in on the double dip as she won the 400 hurdles and triple jump.

AVCS’ Kaelin Suloff took home the title of fastest girl in the meet, winning the 100 in 12.4, just a tenth of a second ahead of McAuliffe.
