SALT ROCK — All four volunteer firefighters involved in a fire truck crash last week are out of the hospital and on their way to recovery.
A Green Valley Volunteer Fire Department truck crashed at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Grassy Lick Road near the Cabell/Wayne county line. It was responding to a structure fire in Wayne County.
Four firefighters were in the truck. Three were transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital in ambulances and one was taken in a HealthNet helicopter, according to information from the West Virginia State Police.
Lt. Justin Adkins of the Green Valley VFD said the injured firefighters still have a couple months of recovery ahead of them.
“All of them are in great spirits and they’re eager and they’re motivated to get back into the community and serve the community again,” Adkins said.
Over the next few months, Green Valley VFD will receive help taking calls from other fire departments.
“The volunteer service is as slim as it is and that’s just not our department, that’s nationwide. So any time that we lose four guys for a couple of months, it definitely does hurt, but that does not stop us from serving the community,” he said.
