Officer Dustin Johnson, left, is sworn into service by Monument Police Department chief Patrick Regan during the March 18 regular meeting of the Monument Town Council as the latest officer to join the department’s roster.

As the Monument Police Department continues to flourish in its staffing, the latest officer to join the roster was recently sworn in.

Officer Dustin Thompson who recently joined the Monument Police Department was sworn into service March 18 during the regular meeting of the Monument Town Council at town hall. Originally from Colorado Springs, Johnson has lived in Colorado his entire life.

A resident of Monument, Johnson comes to the Monument police force after having served with the Manitou Springs Police Department.

Johnson began his law enforcement career in 2020 working part-time and simultaneously earning his associate degree in criminal justice. January of the following year, he joined the police academy full time, where he applied to the Manitou Springs police Department and graduated in that department’s uniform May of 2021. He was top of his class in firearms and academics.

He worked for Manitou Springs PD as a patrol officer until February of this year when he continued his career as part of the Monument PD.

“As a resident of the Monument area, I am passionate about protecting my community and making the home I love a better place and helping my neighbors,” Johnson said. “With my experience as a law enforcement officer within this county, it allows me to bring a lot of experience to Monument Police Department, specifically related to traffic and DUI enforcement.”

In his free time, Johnson loves spending time with his wife of 10 years and their young son. He also enjoys being outside, hiking and fly fishing, as well as making time in the gym for weights training, he said.

The community should know when Johnson responds to calls to help them or see him on the road, it can trust it is one of its neighbors and the community’s best interests align with his own, Johnson said.

“I can proudly say that I am a resident of Monument and love living here,” he said.
