The Colorado National Monument Association (CNMA) announced Monday that it is launching a series of fundraising events to celebrate its 60th year, with the goal of raising $60,000 this year in support of Colorado National Monument.

The CNMA, a non-profit organization partnering with the National Monument, has supported the park over the decades through contributions such as organizing ranger-led field trips for local students, supporting scientific research, contributing to historic preservation projects, funding trail maintenance initiatives and fostering the Junior Ranger Program.

“Whether you see Serpents Trail as nature’s treadmill, or your children have explored the canyons on field trips, or you enjoy the economic boost from tourism, our community is intricately connected to our treasured national park,” said CNMA Executive Director Johanna van Waveren in a statement. “As we anticipate celebrating 60 years of mutual support, we really look forward to celebrating with our community.”

CNMA fundraising events will begin April 17, as CNMA will be Fruita’s Hot Tomato Pizza’s non-profit of the month to kick off a concert series with the Troy Douglas Band. Other events include:

• A Ramblebine Brewing Company, 457 Colorado Avenue, release party in June with a special beer and member appreciation gifts;

• The completion of the Saddlehorn Amphitheater and Trail Project on Aug. 2, celebrated with a concert in the new venue;

• The official 60th anniversary date on Sept. 25, with Monument Vista Place hosting a jazz concert to raise funds.

Additionally, CNMA’s “Then and Now” photo exhibit will be displayed throughout the year in various locations in the Grand Valley to celebrate their history of protecting the Colorado National Monument.
