Baker banned as Tribunal holds firm on MRO's grading

2024-04-02T18:48+11:00

Richmond’s Liam Baker won’t face St Kilda in Round 4 after the AFL Tribunal upheld the charge handed down by the Match Review Officer.

Baker was charged with rough conduct for his collision with Sydney’s Lewis Melican in a five-point win on Sunday.

Originally graded as high contact, careless conduct and medium impact for his act of going back with the flight and attempting to spoil, Baker and Richmond argued both that it was not a reportable offence and for low impact rather than medium.

Yet the AFL ultimately disagreed, keeping the 26-year-old’s ban at one week.

Richmond faces St Kilda on Sunday at Norwood Oval, with Baker one of a number of Tigers who will be unavailable.

The Tigers have already lost Tom Lynch (hamstring) and Noah Balta (knee) from Sunday’s contest, while Dion Prestia (hamstring) and Jacob Hopper (hamstring) are also certain to miss.

Dustin Martin, Dylan Grimes and Jack Graham are all a test to come back into the senior side.
