Storms move off coast after bringing heavy rain, strong winds in Central Florida
THAT’S ON OUR RADAR, SO PEOPLE. NEED TO BE CAREFUL OUT THERE. YEAH, WE WON’T HAVE THE WINDS THAT WE HAD EARLIER TODAY. IT’S STILL GUSTY, BUT IT’S NOT GOING TO BE 40, ALMOST 50 MILE AN HOUR. WINDS AND IT’S NOT GOING TO TOPPLE OVER ANY OF THOSE AWNINGS. LET ME TAKE YOU BACK OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW AND SHOW YOU WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. AS YOU CAN SEE OVER THE DOWNTOWN AREA, WE HAVE A WET LENS THERE AS WE’VE HAD OUR RAIN MOVE ON THROUGH AND THAT WILL CONTINUE HERE. OVER. THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. BUT THE WORST OF THE WEATHER NOW DOWN TO THE SOUTH OF US HERE YOU SEE SOME STEADY TO MODERATE RAIN NOW UP TOWARDS DAYTONA BEACH, BACK TOWARDS SANFORD AND JUST TO THE NORTH OF ORLANDO, BACK TOWARDS MARK AND WOODS ROAD, MOVING THROUGH SEMINOLE COUNTY, THERE’S NEW SMYRNA BEACH, THERE’S DELAND OFF TO THE WEST. CHECK IT OUT. MORE RAIN NOW MOVING BACK INTO WILLISTON. CITRA REDDICK, GET READY FOR ANOTHER ROUND OF RAIN. WE ZOOM IT IN TO THE MODERATE RAIN HERE NOW. AND THERE IT IS FROM SANFORD BACK TOWARDS FOREST CITY. THIS IS BUILDING UP NOW TOWARDS NEW SMYRNA BEACH AND PORT ORANGE. FARTHER TO THE SOUTH HERE JUST NORTH OF WESH TWO STUDIOS, WE’VE GOT A NICE SOLID SHIELD OF SOME MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN AND THEN BACK TOWARDS WEDGEFIELD AND PORT SAINT JOHN. MORE RAIN HEADED YOUR WAY SO YOU CAN SEE IT’S GOING TO BE ADDING ON UP NOW INTO PALM BAY, MELBOURNE, BREVARD COUNTY. TEMPERATURES THERE BEGINNING TO COME DOWN AFTER IT WAS IN THE MID 80S. Wednesday was declared a First Warning Weather Day.A tornado watch was issued for a majority of counties in Central Florida throughout the entire day, but those watches expired or were canceled. A squall line arrived mid-day right as temperatures heated up, increasing the threat of severe weather. Luckily, there were no additional watches or warnings issued. People in the Central Florida area experienced lots of rain and high gusts of wind. Originally, there was an “isolated” 1/5 risk for severe weather, but new models upgraded Wednesday to a “scattered” 2/5 risk.The storms later moved off the Brevard coast Wednesday evening. Rain lingered throughout the night. Following this bout of severe weather, we will see a nice cooldown and sun for the rest of the week and weekend.
