Methodology

We rated the largest internet providers in the U.S. for 2024. Each provider was rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on over a dozen factors, including speed, cost, availability, fees, customer satisfaction, connection type and more. We also used data from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to compare the average speed offered by internet companies in the U.S. to set a baseline for what is considered a good internet speed. Additionally, we analyzed data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) to understand how each internet service provider (ISP) fares in customer service and perceived value.

How to choose an internet provider in Nashville

Checking your exact Nashville address for internet serviceability is the quickest way to find available options. Since Nashville has areas with fast fiber speeds as well as rural areas with speeds under 10 Mbps, ensure you know your provider options before getting too far into your Nashville internet search.

Once you’ve narrowed down the possibilities for your address, choose your best internet plan by calculating your potential number of internet devices and necessary speed. When deciding on a budget for service, keep in mind that the average starting price among the top six Nashville providers is $54/mo.

  • Households with heavy gaming, streaming and social media use or frequent uploading on multiple devices should consider fiber or cable internet over 300 Mbps.
  • Households with under 10 devices and occasional multi-device streaming or gaming can use plans between 100 and 300 Mbps over a cable, fiber, 5G or DSL connection.
  • Light streaming on five devices or less can use DSL, satellite or 5G without issue. Most standard-definition streaming services need at least 1 to 3 Mbps to work.

Nashville internet provider reviews

Nashville-Davidson County is home to nearly 700,000 people, according to the United States Census Bureau. Nashville has a variety of cable, fiber, 5G, satellite and DSL internet services due to the mix of city, suburban and rural communities.

Xfinity – Best for bundling multiple services

Overall score: 3.9 out of 5.

Read the full Xfinity review.

Xfinity internet service is available just about anywhere in Nashville. Xfinity has cheap internet plans with or without contracts and speeds from 75 Mbps to 2 GB. Internet installation is free with most plans, and equipment fees are $15/mo. (or you can supply your own modem and Wi-Fi router). You can bundle services and apply Xfinity’s multi-product discount. Available deals include internet and TV bundles or add Xfinity Mobile, home phone and home security.

AT&T – No equipment fees

Overall score: 4.1 out of 5.

Read the full AT&T review.

AT&T service in Nashville is dependent on your location. AT&T Fiber is available with speeds of 300 Mbps to 4.7 GB, but some rural locations have copper lines that deliver DSL internet. DSL is a dedicated line that brings reliable and secure internet with max speeds of 100 Mbps and little speed fluctuation.

AT&T Fiber doesn’t charge for equipment, and plans are unlimited and contract-free. You can bundle with a qualifying AT&T wireless plan for a $20/mo. internet discount. Fiber plans come with free installation, while DSL may have a $99 installation fee.

T-Mobile – Fast installation

Overall score: 4.1 out of 5.

Read the full T-Mobile review.

T-Mobile offers the quickest internet setup with free two-day shipping for the free internet equipment. The simple setup involves plugging the gateway into a wall outlet near a window. T-Mobile 5G is $60/mo. for internet-only, $50/mo. with a Go5G, Magenta® or Essentials phone plan, or $40/mo. with a Go5G Next, Go5G Plus or Magenta® MAX phone plan. T-Mobile plans have no contracts or data caps, but a one-time $35 device connection charge is due upfront.

T-Mobile download speeds are up to 245 Mbps, and upload speeds are up to 20 Mbps. However, 5G internet service delivers Wi-Fi over cell towers, and speeds can fluctuate daily based on how busy the network is in your area. T-Mobile reports that the typical user will experience average speeds between 33 and 182 Mbps, while Speedtest.net reports the median speed is nearly 189 Mbps.

Verizon 5G Home – Longest price guarantee

Overall score: 4 out of 5.

Read the full Verizon 5G review.

If you want a long-term price guarantee without a contract, try Verizon 5G Home or Home Plus. Verizon 5G Home (85–300 Mbps) has a two-year price guarantee, and Home Plus (300–1,000 Mbps) locks in your price for three years. Both options include free equipment and unlimited internet.

Verizon 5G internet is good for connecting multiple devices, streaming, gaming or participating in other online activities, but the faster plan often includes additional perks like unlimited cloud storage and gift card offers. Like other fixed wireless plans, speeds can vary depending on network congestion.

Google Fiber – Good for gaming

Overall score: 3.8 out of 5.

Read the full Google Fiber review.

Google Fiber is a preferred provider for gamers and streamers because the fiber service offers symmetrical speeds and a consistent connection with little lag. Nashville has two Google Fiber plans at 1 or 2 GB. The fast upload speeds are good for uploading files, photos, attachments and more. Google Fiber does not have contracts, data limits or scheduled price increases. Equipment and installation are included.

Earthlink offers multiple types of internet connections by leasing the infrastructure from other providers. Put another way, if another brand of fiber, DSL or 5G internet service is available at your address, there is a chance you can get that same service from Earthlink. This option can be convenient if you are searching for an alternative provider to the big names like Xfinity and AT&T. Earthlink plans and prices vary by location more than other providers because of the various services offered.

Cheap internet in Nashville

Four plans start at $55 or less in Nashville, TN, all from either Xfinity or AT&T. Wireless Verizon or T-Mobile customers can also get cheaper 5G internet when bundling with a qualifying phone plan.

Sometimes, but not always, cheap internet can have more fees or conditions than faster, more expensive plans. For example, cheap Xfinity plans have contracts with early termination fees (ETFs), but you may opt out of the contract plan in exchange for paying a higher monthly rate. Furthermore, the Xfinity Connect plan has an additional $15/mo. fee for the modem and router unless you provide your own equipment. All other internet deals listed include a gateway for Wi-Fi.
