SMELTERVILLE, Idaho — The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) is investigating an apparent human fetus found in a storm drain in Smelterville.
According to SCSO, deputies responded to a call about a human fetus found in a storm drain on Feb. 24. Seth Green with the sheriff's office told KREM 2 a city employee working on the sewage lines discovered the fetus.
SCSO said it appears the fetus entered the storm line within the town of Smelterville and is approximately four months along. The sheriff's office did not say whether investigators believe the fetus was intentionally put in the storm drain.
"At this point, it's just investigating to find out how it entered the sewage system," Green said. "We're starting with what we have. [The] Medical examiner is checking it out and finishing their report as well. So then we'll go from there."
SCSO is investigating the incident, but not as a crime. Anyone with information is asked to call (208) 556-1114.
