First Alert: Tracking big changes with our next front
Sunny & warm for Thursday; rain chance returns Friday
- Cold bring brings isolated/scattered showers Fri-Sat
- Cooler weather coming Sunday-Monday
- Extended stretch without a widespread rain
We remain dry overnight with lows dipping into the 50s. Clouds will start to work in overnight.
FRIDAY
A cold front will pass over the region allowing for a few scattered showers and storms Friday afternoon and evening. The highest probability will be in the mountains with lesser chances to the east of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Severe threat is very low.
Highs will be scattered in the 70s Friday under a mostly cloudy sky.
SATURDAY
A cold front will continue to push towards the east away from our hometowns Saturday before stalling out along the coast late in the day. While it’s moving through plan for a few more clouds along with a stray shower in the morning. Most areas will be dry with highs in the low 70s.
For those in town for the Blue Ridge Marathon, expect a gorgeous start to the day with partly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 50s to mid 60s during race time.
SUNDAY
A front will be stalled along the coast Sunday with an area of rain riding along it. However, there’s still some uncertainty as to just how close that will be. Right now looks like the best chance to see showers will be the counties near the VA/NC border. If rain does make it that far north it would be during Sunday evening-overnight.
LOOKING AHEAD
We start off next week with cooler than normal temperatures, but we will see highs near normal (low 70s) starting Tuesday. Overnight lows will be in the 40s (near 30°F for a few hometowns) both Monday and Tuesday morning. Have those heavier coats nearby.
