Septemer 30, 1952 - February 7, 2024
VENTURA - Steven Kirk "Deuce" Dawson, 71, passed away at his home in Ventura, Iowa, on February 7, 2024, following an illness. The family will welcome friends at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 20, at 3:00pm at the Clear Lake VFW.
Steve was born September 30, 1952, to Jeanne (Colburn) Dawson and Milton Dawson in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Clear Lake High School and Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo. Deuce's business ventures included Lakeside Dock and Hoist and General Superintendent of large commercial agricultural construction projects. In 2002 he purchased the Open Bible Church Camp in Ventura and created Deer Valley Lodge and Campground with a vision of protecting nature and wildlife while enabling people to make memories of a lifetime at Clear Lake. His most recent endeavor was building a 14'x30' barge for boat hoists.
Deuce never met a stranger and counted himself fortunate to have friendships that spanned decades. He is survived by his sister, Lori J. Day (Paul Koeniguer); niece Mindy Day (Jason Schaffer); nephew Corey (Ann) Day, Sydney and Nolan; Larry (Kay) Day; and the families of Michelle (Wade) Herrik, Mark (Nancy) Koeniguer, and Joel (Ann) Koeniguer. Dana Peterson and Sheryl Blakley Pietsch are lovingly remembered by Deuce and his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother Jeanne (Colburn) Dawson, infant sister Molly Ann Dawson, grandparents Earl and Helen (Smith) Colburn, and step-niece Renee Koeniguer.
The family appreciates the many friends who provided love, support, and prayers. Memorials may be directed to the North Iowa Humane Society or Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Deuce's legacy is his adventurous spirit, big heart, and love of animals and nature. His work here is done. He has earned his peace. We envision him renewing relationships and riding his Harley in Heaven.
