DEER PARK, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff's Office says deputies fired shots at a wanted felony suspect, who was pronounced dead following an hours-long standoff in Deer Park Friday night.
The sheriff's office says deputies responded to a home at North Monroe Road, north of the Casberg-Burroughs off Highway 395, where they were trying to get a wanted felony suspect out of the home. The sheriff's office says the suspect was wanted for first-degree child rape in Stevens County and failed to appear for trial.Â
Stevens County deputies requested resources from the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.
SCSO says the SWAT Team arrived, and the suspect came out of the home and talked to crisis negotiators for hours, saying he would not give himself up and he wanted deputies to shoot him.
SCSO says chemical munitions were put into the home to keep the suspect from going back into the home. SCSO says the suspect went back into the home, and SWAT breached the doors of the home.
SCSO says deputies then breached a shed attached to the house before firing shots back into the home through a window. The suspect was hit by a bullet, and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
SCSO says the SIIR team is looking into body camera footage of the shooting. Three deputies have been put on administrative leave.
