Acclaimed children's authors to inspire El Paso students at Texas Book Festival event

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Three children's authors and illustrators will visit two El Paso schools on Friday in honor of the Texas Book Festival's annual Reading Rock Stars program.

Three children's authors and illustrators -- Pedro Martin, Andrea Caceres and Mirelle Ortega -- will visit two El Paso-area schools on Friday as part of the Texas Book Festival's annual Reading Rock Stars program.

Martin is the award-winning author of a graphic memoir, "Mexikid," while Caceres' debut book, "My Dog Just Speaks Spanish," was published last year. Ortega is the award-winning author-illustrator behind "Magic: Once Upon a Faraway Land."

The schools, both of which are Title I, include Aoy Elementary School and Hart Elementary School.

During the event, Martin, Caceres and Ortega will share their latest works and distribute roughly 800 books to the students, including signed copies of their own books.

According to the Texas Book Festival, the Reading Rock Stars program "enlivens books for children by bringing authors to schools to share stories that ignite curiosity and excitement among young readers and provide memorable experiences to support a lifelong love of reading, writing, and creativity."
