Sinkhole expansion prompts ongoing closure of Illinois 185 near Hillsboro

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — Illinois 185, between Hillsboro and Coffeen, is still closed due to a sinkhole.

Officials say the sinkhole has slightly increased in diameter, making the area unsafe for travel. On Friday IDOT said it was a 50-foot-wide sinkhole.

The sinkhole is located southeast of the John A. Graham Correctional Center.

Until further notice, IL 185 will remain closed while a geotechnical consultant evaluates the situation.
