April 21, 1924: The McLean County Historical Society museum recently received a large collection of curios from the Philippine islands and Japan from Harry S. Ethell, a brother of Mark Ethell of this city. Harry Ethell saw about five years of actual service in the Philippines with the 39th Infantry volunteers and the 12th Infantry.
75 years ago
April 21, 1949: The AAA program in McLean County promises to result in free sampling of soil for over 130,000 acres of cropland, for those farmers who will pay for the laboratory test. The McLean County Farm Bureau has doubled the capacity of its soils laboratory, where every sample will be tested for needed limestone, phosphate and potash.

April 21, 1974: "The World of Federico Garcia Lorca" is the title of a new bilingual volume co-authored by Joseph L. Laurenti, professor of Spanish and Italian at Illinois State University. The volume contains a chronological biography of the Spanish poet and playwright.

April 21, 1999: Hastings Entertainment opened its first Illinois store this week at the corner of College Avenue and Veterans Parkway in Normal. The 24,750-square-foot superstore carries a wide variety of movie, music and book selections.
