Scott County authorities have charged Cayne R. Smith, 21, with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, according to county court documents. The charge stems from Smith’s alleged participation in a shooting around 12:45 a.m., March 17, outside the M Lounge, 217 N. Brady St.
After an altercation inside the bar, Smith, and Quantrelle Andres Tapia, 20, East Moline, walked out with security, court records state. Smith and Tapia then got into a verbal argument with at least two people outside the bar. It was unclear if these people were involved in the earlier altercation inside.
Authorities accuse Tapia of then pulling out a .380-caliber pistol and chasing the people with whom he and Smith had just argued, records state. The victims were trying to reach their vehicle.
Tapia fired three times at the victims while their backs were turned to him, according to court records. The victims took cover and fired back at Tapia.
Authorities allege Smith then used a 9mm pistol to fire at the victims six more times, records state. When he did so, the victims were trying to enter their vehicle.
Security cameras recorded the fight, court records state. Police recovered three .380-caliber casings and 22 9mm casings at the scene. Bullets hit several vehicles.
The courts issued a warrant for Smith’s arrest on March 28, court records state. Davenport police arrested him Monday.
Davenport officers brought Smith to the Scott County Jail late Monday morning, according to the jail website. His bond has been set at $10,000 cash only.
His next court date was not available Monday afternoon.
Tapia also faces charges from the incident, court records state. In his case, authorities filed counts of attempted murder and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
Police arrested Tapia on March 27 and he remained in custody Monday, held on a $25,000 cash-only bond, according to the Scott County Jail.
The court has set his next court date for April 16, court records state.
