Stormy Daniels will return to the witness stand in Donald Trump’s hush money trial, as the defense tries to undermine the credibility of the porn actor’s salacious testimony about an alleged sexual encounter and the money she got to keep quiet. Defense attorneys will get another chance on Thursday to question Daniels, whose account is central to the prosecutors’ case accusing Trump of scheming to illegally influence the 2016 presidential campaign by burying unflattering stories. Trump looked on in the courtroom as Daniels for hours on Tuesday described an unexpected sexual encounter she says they had in 2006 that resulted in her being paid to keep silent in the final weeks of the 2016 campaign. Trump denies they ever had sex.

California regulators are likely to change how some power companies calculate their customers' bills. The state's public utilities commission is scheduled to vote Thursday on a proposal that would add a new monthly charge to most people's electric bills. For many, it would be a charge of $24.15. For those with lower incomes, it would be $6 or $12 per month. In exchange for the charge, the price of electricity per kilowatt-hour would drop. That means customers who use a lot of energy would likely see savings, while those who use less electricity could see their bill increase. Most states already allow fixed-rate charges.

Mike Yastrzemski had two hits, including a triple, and Sabol delivered an RBI double. Sean Bouchard had three hits for the Rockies, who have lost four straight and nine of 10. They own the worst record in the majors at 8-28 and remain the only club without a series victory or successive wins this season.

Australia has struck a new security deal with Tuvalu after critics complained that a previous pact created an Australian veto power over any other agreement the tiny South Pacific island nation pursued with a third country, such as China. Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Teo and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong committed to a new memorandum of understanding on Thursday that addresses  sovereignty concerns. Teo’s predecessor struck a landmark treaty agreement in November last year that offered Tuvaluans resettlement in Australia to escape rising seas. The treaty also gave Australia a veto power over any security or defense-related agreement Tuvalu wants to make with any other country, including China.

A battle is underway in California between a unit of the Wonderful Co. and United Farm Workers over how a group of workers organized under a recently-enacted labor law. Since the law took effect, four groups of farm workers have filed to unionize including the workers at Wonderful Nurseries in Wasco, Calif. Experts say more are expected to do so. Farmers are concerned the filings will affect how they run their businesses. California has a lengthy history of protecting farm workers' right to organize but few are in unions.

Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton has hit a 119.9 mph home run against the Houston Astros, the hardest-hit ball in the majors this season. In the third inning, Stanton pulled a 1-2 curveball from rookie starter Spencer Arrighetti into the second deck in left field at Yankee Stadium, just inside the foul pole. The 447-foot drive came one night after Stanton rocketed a 118.8 mph homer off Justin Verlander. It was Stanton’s third hardest-hit home run since Statcast tracking began in 2015. He launched a 121.7 mph homer against Texas in August 2018 — the big league record in the Statcast era — and a 121.3 mph shot at Washington in July 2020 that ranks second.
