The mum of a young Coventry man is urging Sky Blues fans to show their support for him at Wembley today. Louis O'Brien-Smith is fighting a health battle and his mum Chantelle Spiers is desperate to make sure he is not 'forgotten'.

Her son, 21, is in hospital awaiting a heart transplant. And today, Sunday, April 21, as Coventry City face off with Man Utd in the FA Cup semi-final, she is pleading with fans to show their love.

Louis is currently at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where has been since the end of February. He needs a heart transplant to save his life.

"For the supporters to clap for him on the 21st minute will show him as he watches away from home that he isn't forgotten," she told ITV in a new media interview ahead of the match. "To know that half of the city, his home town are thinking of him and acknowledging him means the world."

His mum spoke to Coventry Live earlier this week and said he would be "watching the match in hospital, rooting for his home team". She said he was left in tears on April 13 after being told a heart transplant had been found - only for the operation not to go ahead.

Louis' emotions were contrasting - wanting a new heart to get better but worried about the risks of the procedure. Now they are again waiting - but his mum admits they are on the "edge of desperation".

She told ITV in the new interview: "For me, I don't want my little hero to feel forgotten while he waits within the hospital walls." She added: "He's spent so much time fighting, he hasn't had the chance to do all the things young people do. And for him now to sit and wait and remain in the hospital just feels so cruel.

"Particularly after last week's stand down. He's so young, so deserving of a chance at life."

Louis is even doing his bit to raise awareness. There is a huge battle over donors becoming available through the NHS Organ Donor Register system, his mum told us.

She said: "The new opt in system still means we have a huge shortage because families are able to overturn and do overturn the decision unless the patient previously expressed their preference to become an organ donor. When Louis joined the urgent list he was one of 28 in the UK urgent queue.

"He is still trying to spread awareness about joining the organ donor list, from his hospital bed." You can sign on the NHS Organ Donor Register online here.
