La Salle High School honors hundreds who served at Veteran's Appreciation Event
I’M KALYN NORWOOD. WELL, LASALLE HIGH SCHOOL SAYING THANK YOU TO LOCAL HEROES TODAY. THAT’S RIGHT. THIS MORNING WAS THEIR 10TH ANNUAL VETERANS APPRECIATION EVENT WITH HUNDREDS IN ATTENDANCE. WLWT NEWS FIVE ANCHOR CHRIS JACOBS JOINS US WITH A MESSAGE FROM THEIR GUEST SPEAKER, CHRIS, AND A VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE OF THAT, 215 VETERANS WERE IN ATTENDANCE FOR THE 10TH ANNUAL APPRECIATION EVENT. THIS INCLUDED ACTIVE MEMBERS, RESERVISTS, GOLD STAR FAMILIES, AND ONE LASALLE SENIOR. IT ALSO HOSTED CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT DONALD STEVENS AS THE GUEST SPEAKER, WHO SHARED HIS THOUGHTS ON SERVICE AND USE. SEE BY THE LORDS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND SACRIFICE IN ORDER FOR US TO HAVE THE FREEDOMS THAT WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH FOR ALMOST 250 YEARS IS A CHANCE TO SAY THANK YOU. AT LASALLE HIGH SCHOOL, ALL AMERICANS SHOULD NEVER FORGET THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WHO ANSWERED THE CALL OF OUR NATION. HUNDREDS OF VETERANS ATTENDING TODAY’S CEREMONY FROM DIFFERENT BRANCHES AND DIFFERENT GENERATIONS. THE TABLE THAT STANDS BEFORE YOU TODAY IS A PLACE OF HONOR AND SETTING. THIS TABLE. WE ACKNOWLEDGE THOSE MISSING FROM OUR CELEBRATION TODAY. AN EMPTY TABLE WITH SIX CHAIRS, RECOGNIZING EACH BRANCH, PRISONERS OF WAR AND THOSE MISSING IN ACTION. SERVICE BUILDS GREATNESS. THE SERVICE I’M SPEAKING OF IS NOT A PROFESSION. IT’S A CALLING. RETIRED AIR FORCE CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT DONALD STEVENS, SERVING AS THE GUEST SPEAKER, AND SPOKE ON THE IMPORTANCE OF GRATITUDE AND SERVICE BOTH IN AND OUT OF THE MILITARY MEDICAL CHARACTER PAID FORWARD WHAT OTHERS HAVE PAID FOR THEM TO ACHIEVE WHERE THEY ARE AT IN LIFE. SOME MORE, SOME LESS, BUT NONE OF US ACHIEVE OUR DESTINY ON OUR OWN. A MESSAGE SERVING AS A REMINDER TO THE VETERANS IN THE CROWD AND A NEW LESSON TO THE STUDENTS ATTENDING TO USE YOUR STRENGTHS TO HELP SOMEONE OR SOME CAUSE WITH LESS STRENGTH. TRULY, FOR THE PURPOSE OF THE GREATER GOOD. SOMETIMES IN WAYS WE COULD NEVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE. SOME OF THE GREAT SAY, WELL, WE DID MENTION THAT LASALLE SENIOR, WHO WILL SERVE IN THE MILITARY, THAT’S ANDREW BROWNING. HE’S ALSO HE ALSO SPOKE AT TODAY’S CEREMONY, AND HE’S ALREADY MAKING BIG PROGRESS. HE COMPLETED BOOT CAMP BETWEEN HIS JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEAR FOR TH

The La Salle High School community had a chance to say thank you to hundreds of local heroes on Thursday.The school hosted its annual Veteran's Appreciation Event, giving veterans a chance to be recognized and honored for their service.More than 200 veterans were in attendance for the 10th annual appreciation event. It included active members, reservists, Gold Star families and one La Salle senior.Those being honored also included those who served among La Salle faculty and staff.The ceremony included a table with empty chairs, representing those who were missing from the celebration from each branch of the military.The school's choir was also involved in the event, singing the National Anthem and "My Country 'Tis of Thee."Chief master sergeant Donald Steven served as the guest speaker. He served in the Air Force for more than 30 years, speaking about his experiences and the importance of service and gratitude on Thursday."Gentlemen, every one of us has someone to thank and should jump at the chance to do the same for others," Steven told students.Steven also said that service is the key to a fulfilled and meaningful life.Andrew Browning, a La Salle senior, plans to serve in the military and is already making big progress. He completed boot camp between his junior and senior year for the Army National Guard.
