La Salle High School honors hundreds who served at Veteran's Appreciation Event
The La Salle High School community had a chance to say thank you to hundreds of local heroes on Thursday.
The school hosted its annual Veteran's Appreciation Event, giving veterans a chance to be recognized and honored for their service.
More than 200 veterans were in attendance for the 10th annual appreciation event. It included active members, reservists, Gold Star families and one La Salle senior.
Those being honored also included those who served among La Salle faculty and staff.
The ceremony included a table with empty chairs, representing those who were missing from the celebration from each branch of the military.
The school's choir was also involved in the event, singing the National Anthem and "My Country 'Tis of Thee."
Chief master sergeant Donald Steven served as the guest speaker. He served in the Air Force for more than 30 years, speaking about his experiences and the importance of service and gratitude on Thursday.
"Gentlemen, every one of us has someone to thank and should jump at the chance to do the same for others," Steven told students.
Steven also said that service is the key to a fulfilled and meaningful life.
Andrew Browning, a La Salle senior, plans to serve in the military and is already making big progress. He completed boot camp between his junior and senior year for the Army National Guard.
