Celebrate the total solar eclipse at these events in the Austin area

Texas will experience its first total solar eclipse since 1878 on April 8. Cities closest to the eclipse’s path of totality will be in the moon’s shadow for around 4 minutes. Here are a few events to check out on or around eclipse day. We'll continue to add more events as we get closer to April 8.

Austin

Eclipse & Sips Rooftop Viewing Party

Hilton Austin will have eclipse-themed cocktails and mocktails, as well as free eclipse viewing glasses on April 8. This event runs from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., and admission is free.

Long Center Viewing Party

This free event on the Long Center Lawn and H-E-B Terrace on April 8 will feature live music and educational opportunities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All guests will get free viewing glasses, and the first 1,000 people will receive a tote bag. Food and beverages will be available onsite.

Eclipse at the Zoo 2024

Tickets include admission, eclipse-viewing glasses, free educational talks, entry into the Austin Zoo Family Pack raffle and a souvenir poster. Tickets cost $37.90 for adults, but discounts are available for children, members, students and seniors.

Total Eclipse of the Park

Republic Square will host an eclipse watch party on April 8 from 1 to 2 p.m. Live music and food will be available, and the first 200 attendees will get complimentary viewing glasses.

Total Eclipse Party at the Austin Public Library

Several Austin Public Library branches will have free viewing events with eclipse-themed festivities on April 8 from 11 to 2 p.m.

Eclipse Party at the Neill-Cochran House Museum

Celebrate "All Things Spherical" from noon-4 p.m. on April 8. There will be bingo and lawn games. Tickets ($20 for members and $25 for other).

Mozart’s Coffee Total Solar Eclipse Extravaganza

There will be live music, aerialist performances, specialty drinks and snacks. The event is free, but you must RSVP.

Total Eclipse of the Park: Eclipse Viewing Party

Pease Park will provide yoga and eclipse-related activities April 8. Attendees working remotely can connect to the internet for free in Kingsbury Commons. Eclipse-viewing glasses are also available for a selected donation.

Total Eclipse of the Horns

UT Austin's event isn't for the general public, but if you're a student, staff or faculty member, campus will be open from 12 to 3 p.m. for eclipse viewing on April 8. Glasses will also be available in 16 areas across campus. KUT News will broadcast live from the Moody Plaza, and Primo the Alien and other bands will perform. More information will be announced at eclipse.utexas.edu.

Bastrop

Bastrop's Solar Eclipse: Past & Present

The Bastrop Museum and Visitor Center will host educational presentations, games and activities on eclipse day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The museum will distribute free eclipse glasses.

Bastrop Solar Eclipse Watch Party

This free, all-ages event at Bob Bryant Park will have food vendors and eclipse-themed music from 12 to 2 p.m. on April 8. Free eclipse viewing glasses are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Solar Eclipse Viewing

Neighbor’s Kitchen and Yard will open their outdoor space for lunch and eclipse viewing. The restaurant will serve eclipse-themed food and drinks from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. A limited number of eclipse-viewing glasses will be provided.

Blanco County

Eclipse Party

Ron Yates Winery in Hays will host an outdoor eclipse event on April 8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A general admission ticket costs $125, which includes breakfast, lunch, parking, eclipse viewing glasses, a glass of wine and a special wine glass. Children 12 and under get in for free, while tickets for those 13 to 20 cost $50.

Old Blanco County Courthouse

Guests can watch the eclipse in downtown Blanco on April 8. Several food and drink vendors will be present from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Burnet

2024 Texas Eclipse at Traditions

Traditions Event Venue in Burnet will celebrate the eclipse in its 75-acre location with live music, food and beverages on April 8. General admission tickets are $25 per day, and children under 5 get in for free. Guests can go camping for free on eclipse day.

Dripping Springs

SunBLOCK Party

There will be live music from local students and artists, as well as food and eclipse-related vendors on Mercer Street from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Photo opportunities are also available at Veterans Memorial Park.

Fredericksburg

2024 Solar Eclipse Festival

Visitors can view the eclipse at Grapetown Vineyard and Fredericksburg Polo Club and participate in several outdoor activities. General admission for adults is $45 and $20 for children ages 3 to 18. Add-ons for parking, a safari wine tour, camping and hot air balloon rides are available.

Fredericksburg Eclipse Bash

Bankersmith Dancehall and Saloon will have a space to view the eclipse, with live music on April 8. Visitors can also go camping at Grapetown Vineyard and Farm right across the street. General admission is $45, with add-ons for parking and hot air balloon rides available.

Georgetown

Here Goes the Sun Events in Georgetown

There will be several eclipse-viewing events around Georgetown on April 8. Southwestern University’s physics department will have telescopes. Solar glasses will also be distributed. Details about the events at Berry Springs Park and Preserve, Garey Park, Lake Georgetown and Inner Space Cavern will be updated on the city’s website closer to the date.

Leander

Eclipse Party at the Fieldhouse at the Crossover

There will be a DJ, food trucks and eclipse-themed drinks at this free event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eclipse-viewing glasses will be provided. Attendees can also enter a raffle to win a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Round Rock

The End of the World Eclipse Viewing Party

Cork & Barrel is hosting a viewing event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. General admission costs $35 and includes a lunch buffet, T-shirt, eclipse-viewing glasses and live entertainment.

Total Eclipse at the Bar

This event at Wine Sensation will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets cost $30 and include outdoor seating, eclipse-viewing glasses, a glass of wine and truffle popcorn.

Total Eclipse of the Park

The Dell Diamond will celebrate the total eclipse from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets cost $12 and includes admission and eclipse-viewing glasses. Eclipse-themed concession items will also be available for purchase. Attendees who buy a ticket for a game between April 9 and April 11 get a free eclipse ticket.

San Marcos

Eclipse Watch Party at Middleton Brewing

Middleton Brewing will be hosting a watch party with eclipse viewing glasses and beer specials on April 8.

Eclipse Watch Party at Roughhouse Brewing

Roughhouse Brewing is hosting a free watch party from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. RSVP here.

Wimberley

Wimberley Total Solar Eclipse Event

The city will celebrate the eclipse from April 6 to April 8. Live music, food vendors and eclipse-themed activities for all ages will take place downtown during the weekend. Visitors are invited to view the eclipse at Blue Hole Park’s soccer fields.
