Anniversaries: Happy anniversary to Zane and Janett Smith. They were married on April 25, when Zane was a senior at Howard College. They have 3 sons and also provided a home for another young man. Congratulations to the Smiths.

Sports: Congratulations to the Pell City High School Tennis Teams who won sectionals and are headed to state. The girls finished 8-1 and the boys were 7-2. This is especially memorable because, per coach Jennifer Lee, this was supposed to be a building year. and another reason it is special is because Margaret’s great-granddaughter, Anna Beth Adams, is on this tennis team.

Congratulations to Abby Wesson, PCHS athlete, who was honored as a 2024 Bryant Jordan Foundation Regional Achievement Award winner. Congratulations to Haley Hendrix, Victory Christian athlete, who was honored as 2024 Bryant Jordan Scholar Athlete Scholarship recipient. They were two of only 104 students out of 190,000 student athletes in Alabama invited to the scholarship banquet.

Congratulations to PCHS baseball player, Brayley Smith, who threw a perfect game to secure a playoff spot for the Panthers. Panthers made it through the first round, now on to the next.

The Pell City 7th grade boys basketball tryouts will be on May 20, at Williams Intermediate School gym. The Pell City 8th grade boys basketball tryouts will be May 21, at Duran Jr. High gym from 3:30-5 p.m. Boys must have a current physical before trying out. Must have athletic shorts and basketball shoes.

Pell City High School boys basketball is putting on a golf scramble tournament fundraiser on May 31, at 1 p.m. at Alpine Bay Golf Course. Interested in making strawberry jam? Come learn the basics of making jams and jellies and learn water bath canning basics. In the workshop guests will prepare some fresh strawberry jam to carry home.
