EARTH DAY YOGA CLASS—Bays Mountain Park is partnering with a local yoga instructor to offer residents a yoga class to celebrate Earth Day. The Earth Day yoga class will be held at the Pavilion at Lily Pad Cove from 3 to 4 p.m. on April 21. The class will start promptly at 3 p.m. Enjoy challenging your body in active poses that build strength through concentric, eccentric and isometric muscle contractions in a flow format (first 30 minutes). Balance and flexibility will also be emphasized. The final half of the class will feature restorative yoga poses and will end with a relaxation section. OLD OAK FESTIVAL—Greeneville, TN. One of Tusculum’s cherished traditions, the Old Oak Festival, returns Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21. The festival is open to everyone, and admission is free. The festival hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on April 20 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on April 21. The event will include vendors, food, authors and high-caliber entertainment. Additional touches that will highlight the festival’s comprehensiveness are a car show, inflatables for children and creative writing readings by Tusculum students. Art will occupy a prominent place at the festival. For the second straight year, the university will have an en plein air painting event featuring the iconic Old Oak Tree on campus. In addition, the popup art competition for Greeneville and Greene County elementary school students showcases their talent. The festival will also contain an exhibit of works by Bill Bledsoe, assistant professor of art and design, and pieces developed by high school students during the Old Oak Workshops held prior to the festival. Haynes represented the State of Tennessee in the Confederate Congress while two of his sons fought in the war. The Department of East Tennessee Civil War Reenactors will be at the site to commemorate the soldiers of the United States and Confederacy. The site and camps will be open from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. A small battle will take place at 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Before the battle, visit the camps of Confederate and Union soldiers and learn how the soldiers lived during the war. There will be plenty of fun and interesting things to see and do for every one of all ages. Also, discover the rich history of Tipton-Haynes as you examine the site’s eleven historic structures and tour the historic home of the Haynes family. Explore the cave and feel it’s cool air and take a relaxing stroll along the site’s quarter-mile nature trail. Several local food and craft vendors will also be at the site on both days.
