Viennetta Vanilla ice creams have been recalled from Tesco supermarkets - because the labelling is in Spanish.

The blunder means the treats are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or an allergy to soya. As these allergens and product information are both in Spanish, Tesco has had to take a batch off its shelves across England, Wales and Scotland. Affected Viennetta Vanilla 650ml products have a Batch Code L4031BC020 and Best Before Date of January 2026.

The Food Standards Agency said: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or an allergy to soya, do not eat it. Instead, contact the Unilever careline team for further guidance on 0800146252 or email ukicare@unilever.com."

No stores in Northern Ireland are affected by the mistake. Unilever, which makes the ice creams, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your co-operation." It said only a limited number of the Viennetta Vanilla 650ml are affected but, those customers affected, can call the company's careline to receive further advice and instruction. The Mirror has contacted Tesco for comment.

It comes after Morrisons took the precautionary action of extending their recall of The Best Taleggio this week because Listeria monocytogenes has been found in the product. This product recall has been updated to include more "use by" dates.

Food Standards Agency said the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the product listed above. Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one-month-old and people with weakened immune systems.
