The El Paso school district voted unanimously Thursday to appoint Dr. Jack Loveridge to the District 3 seat representing the Austin High School area.

Loveridge will be replacing Josh Acevedo who resigned from the board when he was elected to El Paso City Council.

Loveridge has experience as a co-founder of a nonprofit in Boston.

Loveridge also runs a tech startup in El Paso, something he said will help during a financially challenging time for schools.

"We understand how to do great things with limited resources," Loveridge said. "I think the overall picture for the state of Texas is something that multiple districts are going to be contending with. We can work with those resources through using the strategic levers that we set out as a district to make sure that we are meeting the mark in terms of that finance question."

Loveridge said he also wants to help prop up declining enrollment and open up communication with the public, and he wants to run for a full term when this term ends in 2025.
