SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - One Siouxland sports team stepped off of the field and into the donation chair for a good cause.

The Sioux City Bandits hosted a blood drive at LifeServe Blood Center Monday, inviting the community to donate with them. Blood is a critical component in medical traumas and surgeries and donations tend to drop in the summer months making donation drives like this important for the Siouxland community.

”Everybody is busy, they are pretty low in the winter months, so it’s easier to donate during the winter months,” said LifeServe’s Rebekah Armstrong. “When the summer months come, people are on vacations, they leave, traffic starts to increase and accidents happen and people are not out and about in their normal routines and people tend to forget to come in and make donations.”

For the Bandits organizations, partnering with LifeServe for an event likes this helps them give back to the community who supports the team every season.

“The Sioux City Bandits are a community organizations. A lot of our players call Siouxland home. So this is a great opportunity to bring two organizations together and give back to the community that supports us,” said Sioux City Bandits President Brett Funke.

Those who donated got a t-shirt and also free tickets to one of their last two home games of the season.

If you missed this event, you can donate at any time at LifeServe and all blood donated stays in the local community.
