No major injuries after fire destroys barn near South Sioux City

UPDATE

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - No major injuries are being reported after a fire broke out Thursday morning near South Sioux City, Nebraska.

At around 8:30 a.m. South Sioux City firefighters were sent to a barn fire at 1488 Lake Ave. The initial investigation shows the fire started at the barn and spread to a nearby house due to the wind. Crews from Dakota City and Homer were called in to assist.

Firefighters were able to get the flames under control within 40 minutes. The fire did destroy the barn and the house received serious damage.

Officials at the scene say no one was seriously hurt in the fire. One person was sent to the hospital for minor injuries while two firefighters had to be treated for exhaustion. According to officials, there were two people on the property when the fire broke out.

Officials say no animal deaths have been confirmed. They did say several animals did get loose and first responders helped round them up.
