GOSHEN — Until this coming Saturday, Goshen residents are encouraged to drop off certain kinds of waste items at the city’s Street Department facility at 475 Steury Ave.
“Beautify Goshen Week” is a free service available only during an eight-day period.
Steve Howard and Ron Pollock of the city’s Street Department were on hand early afternoon Saturday, helping a number of residents who arrived with materials for disposal.
“We just got here at 11 a.m. and it’s been non-stop,” Pollock said, noting that one dumpster was completely empty when he started and was now getting close to being filled. “It’s surprising how much stuff we take in.”
Howard said he was glad for the community support he had seen for the cleanup effort.
“It’s what Goshen does,” he said.
Randy and Pam Clouse, Goshen, bought their house 30 years ago, where the previous owners had left aluminum siding, windows, scrap wood, pipes and other items.
“We’re finally getting rid of it,” Randy Clouse said as they dropped it off.
Some of the material is going to the landfill, others to OmniSource Recycling.
On Sunday the facility was closed, but the project will start again today.
