PEA RIDGE — A Rogers man is facing charges in connection with a high-speed chase Thursday afternoon in Benton County.

Joshua Bradley Parks, 31, of Rogers is facing charges of fleeing, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance in connection with the chase, according to a news release from the Pea Ridge Police Department.

A Pea Ridge officer was traveling west on Hazelton Road from Weston Street around 3:41 p.m. following a gold 2003 Chevy Malibu with an Illinois license plate that was driving erratically on Weston Street, the release states.

The Malibu began traveling at a high rate of speed on Hazelton, then passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone just east of Charles Street, and the officer tried to get the driver to stop, the release says.

The Malibu’s driver, later identified as Parks, refused to stop, leading the officer west on Hazelton Road west of It’ll Do Road and through several county roads outside the city before turning from Mariano Road onto Arkansas 72, according to the release. Near Price Coffee Road the Malibu attempted to pass another vehicle and lost control, leaving the roadway and striking a tree.

Officers detained Parks and a woman they determined was an unwilling passenger during the chase. The woman was released without charges. During a search of the vehicle, officers located drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to the release.

Police said they discovered Parks was wanted on felony and misdemeanor warrants out of other area agencies, as well.

Parks was being held Tuesday in the Benton County Jail without bond.
