2024 Nebraska primary election results: Senate races, congressional seats and more

2024 Nebraska primary election results: Senate races, congressional seats and more
FIVE. IT’S NEBRASKA’S FIRST ELECTION WITH NEW LEGISLATION IN EFFECT. THANKS FOR JOINING US. I’M BILL SHERMAN. I’M QUANECIA FRASER. WE’VE BEEN OUT AT POLL SITES ALL DAY TALKING WITH VOTERS ABOUT THE NEW VOTER ID LAW AND HOW THEY’RE EXPERIENCE. WAS KETV. NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S JESSICA PEREZ JOINS US LIVE. WELL, THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW ISSUES THIS MORNING. CONFUSION WITH THE NEW VOTER ID LAW HASN’T BEEN ONE OF THOSE ISSUES. VOTERS TELL ME THE NEW LAW IS PRETTY SELF-EXPLANATORY. IT’S THE FIRST ELECTION SINCE NEBRASKA’S VOTER ID LAW TOOK EFFECT. SO FAR, VOTERS HAVEN’T TAKEN ISSUE. I LOVE THAT THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN A LONG TIME AGO. DOUGLAS PROCOP SAYS THE VOTING PROCESS IS SIMPLE. CHECKED IN AT THE DEATH, SHE GAVE ME THE BALLOT AND I WENT AND FILLED IT OUT, TOOK IT BACK. THAT WAS IT. YEP. EASY PEASY. DEAN WEST FINDS THE NEW LAW SELF-EXPLANATORY. YOU HAVE TO GIVE ID FOR EVERYTHING IN LIFE. IT’S NOTHING UNUSUAL HERE. THE ONLY QUESTIONS HE HAD WERE ABOUT MEASURES ON THE BALLOT. SOME STUFF I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT, SO I DIDN’T VOTE ON THEM BECAUSE, LIKE, I DON’T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. DOUGLAS COUNTY ELECTIONS COMMISSIONER BRIAN CRUZ SAYS SO FAR, POLL WORKERS HAVEN’T SEEN CONFUSION ABOUT VOTER ID AND PHONE LINES OPEN FOR QUESTIONS ARE QUITE A LOT OF OUR TELEPHONE OPERATORS TODAY ARE ARE SITTING AROUND PLAYING ON THEIR PHONES OR READING THINGS OF THAT NATURE. IT’S IT’S REALLY BEEN PRETTY QUIET OUT THERE. WE’VE HAD SOME REGULAR OUR PROVISIONAL ENVELOPES. SO WE ALWAYS GET QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT. AS OF NOON, ONLY ONE PROVISIONAL BALLOT FOR AN OUT-OF-STATE ID WAS USED. CRUZ SAYS SOME POLL PLACES DID FACE OTHER MINOR ISSUES. SAINT MATTHEW’S AND LIFEGATE IN MIDDLETOWN LOST POWER FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS, HE SAYS. VOTING WASN’T INTERRUPTED. IT WAS GOOD. NEBRASKA NEIGHBORS HELPING NEBRASKA NEIGHBORS. THEY HAD, UH, SOME FLASHLIGHTS THE CHURCH PROVIDED. THEY HAD CELL PHONE, FLASHLIGHTS. THE ELECTIONS OFFICE ALSO PROVIDED LANTERNS. CRUZ SAYS THIS IS A FIRST FOR AN ELECTION DAY, BUT OPPD QUICKLY FIXED THE ISSUE. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, THEY DID A BYPASS AROUND IT, SO WE DON’T EXPECT ANY MORE ISSUES OVER THERE. CIVIC NEBRASKA SAYS THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW INSTANCES IN OMAHA AND LINCOLN WITH CONFUSION ON ID ON THE PART OF POLL WORKERS. CRUZ SAYS VOTER TURNOUT HAS BEEN LOW SO FAR, BUT HE EXPECTS IT TO BE IN TOTAL AROUND 32 AND 35% AROUND FOR DOUGLAS COUNTY. LIVE IN OMAHA. JESSICA PERE
