Hastings Community Theatre looks to renovate stage with Give Hastings Day funding

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Early giving for Give Hastings Day is underway and the Hastings Community Theatre is looking to renovate their stage with the funding.

Officials said the stage has hosted several productions over the past several decades, which has led to a lot of wear and tear.

Board Member and Former President Chuck Rosenberg said they’re looking to do a lot of work on the stage with the funding.

”We’re looking to re-deck the entire stage and then we want to do some structural work underneath it once we take the deck off,” Rosenberg said. “We’ll make sure it’s ready to go for next season.”

Rosenberg also said the stage has had several temporary repairs over the years, due to the foundation settling.

The repair work that has been done has at times caused interruptions to rehearsals and productions.

”We’ve had some issues during a rehearsal, where we’ve had to go underneath and make some structural improvements because safety is obviously a huge concern,” Rosenberg said.

Officials said the hope going forward is that they can make the repairs and focus on other parts of the building that are in need of repair.

”I’m sure there will be some needs on this building as well,” Rosenberg said. “This building was built back in 1943 and trust me, on the building and grounds, there’s always some things that need to be improved.”

He also said Give Hastings Day is one of the most important events for Theatre because a lot of times it helps fund a lot of their projects.

”It’s probably the top thing that we receive funds for,” Rosenberg said. “We charge for shows and we have concessions and things, but the ‘Give Hastings Day’ has been a big thing to us and it helps us get that amount of money to get these projects done.”

Early giving for ‘Give Hastings Day’ is happening now, with the 24-hour giving event happening from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on May 2.
