Vehicle crash in Emporia leaves 2 teenagers dead, Virginia State Police say

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in Emporia that left two teenagers dead and two more with serious injuries.

EMPORIA, Va. — Two teenagers are dead after a car crash in Emporia early Thursday morning, Virginia State Police (VSP) said.

According to VSP, the crash happened shortly after 4 a.m.

Investigators believe that Aaliyah Nevaeh Thomas, 17, was driving north on Temple Avenue when she lost control of the 2007 Honda Civic. The car ran off the road and hit a tree, causing the car to split in half. 

Marvin M. Williams Jr., 18, died on impact.  A 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were critically injured and flown to Richmond.

No one was wearing their seatbelts during the crash, according to VSP. Speed has been determined as the probable cause.

VSP is still investigating.
