Severe weather causes damage in EBR, surrounding parishes

Reports are coming in of possible tornado damage and strong winds knocking down trees and powers lines in several areas in the Capital Region.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Reports are coming in of possible tornado damage and strong winds knocking down trees and powers lines in several areas in the Capital Region.

The following lists are of damage reports. Area law enforcement and emergency responders are on scene investigating the following situations:

Ascension Parish

  • No major damage reported other than trees down.

East Baton Rouge Parish

  • Trees and power lines are down on Old Perkins Road near the Santa Maria subdivision.
A Tornado Watch is in effect until 1 p.m.
  • A tree is down on Newcastle Avenue in Baton Rouge. This is a neighborhood near Sherwood Forest.

  • Portions of LSU Avenue are blocked due to downed trees and debris in the roadway.

East Feliciana Parish

  • The power is out at the jail, but the generator is coming back on.
  • Several trees are down across the parish, including a tree on a house on Cast-a-low Road near Ethel and on Pine Street in Lakeshore. No injuries are reported. Multiple car crashes are reported, but no injures reported at this time.

Pointe Coupee Parish

  • The sheriff described the damage as “bad.” Possible tornado damage is reported on Delta Place Road in New Roads and in Morganza. Trees and power lines are down everywhere. A tree has fallen on the Innis Senior Center.
  • City of New Roads has reported significant damage around the city. Several trees have fallen across roads and have broken power lines and poles, which resulted in a large scale power outage. Crews are working to clear roadways and restore power. Currently, there is no timetable as to when the power will be restored.

West Feliciana Parish

  • There are reports of multiple tornados and calls of people trapped in homes and vehicles. The sheriff reports the worst came across St. Francisville, but it went all through the parish. They are in early stages of clean up, and residents are advised to stay off the road.

West Baton Rouge Parish

  • The only structure damage is at a convenience store in Addis. The roof was reportedly blown off.
