Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store in Jordan is planning a big move and to double in size in the next couple of years.

It won’t be moving far, according to a report from The Henderson Independent News. Owner Robert Wagner is setting out to build a larger candy barn on farmland east of the Jordan Supper Club and Tap Room, the report says.

The move was brought on upcoming changes planned for Highway 169 that would permanently cut off the store’s access to the highway. The project is slated to start in May.

“We fought a vigorous battle against that,” Wagner told Henderson. “Jim’s Apple Farm, Scott County, local representatives and senators, commissioners, all of us got together to fight MnDOT…and we were completely unsuccessful.” Wagner also said that without direct access he expected business to decline by 10 percent or more.

Wagner and Scott County have struck a deal for Wagner to acquire 48 acres of farmland (the existing store is on 17 acres) and funds to move the yellow silo, which was added in 2017 during the candy's store last expansion project, to the new location. The county would also take ownership of the land where the existing candy store is located and Wagner would have to be completely moved out by April 1, 2027.

To be ready by 2027, the project would have to start this year, Wagner told Henderson. The current store is about 27,000 square feet in total, or 43,000 square feet including storage space. Henderson said and Wagner plans to double that size for the new barn. He wants the building to be finished by 2026 and expects the project to cost him about $20 million, the report says.

Until then, the existing store will be business as usual.
