Texas Mobile STEM Lab visits Atlanta ISD campus

ATLANTA, Texas - Atlanta, Texas Independent School District is hoping to drive students' interest in STEM careers with a visit aboard the Texas Mobile STEM Lab.

Thanks to a grant from the Texas Education Agency, students are getting a hands on experience in the world of STEM, right in the comfort of the schools parking lot. The mobile lab will be set up all week in front of the Atlanta Primary School.

Students ranging from kindergarten through second grade are taking part in various STEM activities. As a result, they're gaining more knowledge and understanding of science, technology, engineering and math career fields.

Atlanta Primary School STEAM & GT Teacher LaVon Francis applied for the grant last year through the Texas Education Agency and Learning Undefeated. She believes the Texas Mobile STEM Lab is giving students real world life skills.

"Students are using critical thinking skills and creativity to solve problems. Right now, they're solving a problem related to a book, but one day this generation is going to be solving the big problems of the world and how can they do that," said Francis.

The state-of-the-art lab allows space for up to 24 students to work on different experiments and activities.
