Despite a Strong 3 Point Shooting Game, Boston College Women’s Basketball Falls to Notre Dame

The Boston College women’s basketball team played a good game against Notre Dame today, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to pull off a win as the Fighting Irish took this one by a score of 83-73. The Eagles started out with the lead and went into the second quarter up by 4, but they struggled in the second quarter, were outscored 27-15, and went into the second half down 41-32.

BC managed to stage a couple mini-comebacks, but the Irish were on fire from the floor, shooting 61% on field goals. Notre Dame’s accuracy on 2s is really where this game was won. The teams were pretty much equal on rebounds (34-32 BC), points off turnovers (17-16 Notre Dame), and steals (11-10 Notre Dame).

BC uncharacteristically struggled on free throws, going just 4-for-10, which certainly didn’t help things, but the Eagles did make an impressive 13 3-pointers today. The Eagles also had some really strong defensive plays, including forcing Irish shot clock violations a couple times in the second half. BC also was also much more under control in terms of fouling than they have been in recent games: Makayla Dickens did end the game with 4 personal fouls, but as a team the Eagles were only assessed 8 fouls total.

Marnelle Garraud and Dickens both scored an impressive 18 points for BC, with Dickens hitting 4 3-pointers and Garraud hitting an outstanding 6 baskets from behind the arc. Taylor Soule had a quiet offensive first half, but ended the game with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists.

This was another tough loss for BC in a string of similar games, showing that this team is really on the precipice of breaking through. Whether that break through happens this season or whether we’ll have to wait until next year remains to be seen.
