BY TAYLOR PARDUE, ELKIN TRIBUNEThe host of a busted pot party has been charged with a felony and three misdemeanors, according to a incident report with the Jonesville Police Department.Haley Brooke Jarrett, 17, of Jonesville was arrested on Sept. 5 at 6:15 p.m, according to the incident report.According to the report Jarrett’s current address is 110 South Arlington Avenue in Jonesville, the location of the Aug. 31 party.The party led to nearly a dozen other people being charged with various misdemeanors, including numerous charges of possession of marijuana under half an ounce. The arrests included a Starmount varsity football player and two varsity basketball players.Jarrett’s charges include one felony count of maintaining a drug dwelling, a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana less than half an ounce, a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the incident report.A warrant dated Sept. 5 was listed with the felony charge.According to the North Carolina crime book used by Jonesville Police, “North Carolina Crimes: A Guidebook on the Elements of Crime,” a person guilty of maintaining a drug dwelling has to meet certain criteria:“A person guilty of this offense:1) knowingly keeps or maintains2) a store, shop, warehouse, dwelling house, building, vehicle, boat, aircraft, or other place3) (a) being resorted to by persons unlawfully using controlled substances, or (b) being used for unlawfully keeping or selling controlled substances.”While Jarrett was charged with possession of both marijuana and drug paraphernalia, she was listed as not having consumed drugs or alcohol on the report.Her occupation was listed as “student” on the incident report; her employer was listed as Starmount High School.Jarrett was arrested and taken before a committing magistrate. She was released on an unsecured $1,500 bond and was not confined.Her trial date is set for Nov. 13 in Yadkinville.
