Courageous Liz flies off to Cannes

For Elizabeth Taylor, the show must always go on.

Especially when it involves a cause close to her heart.

So, still recovering from a fall at her home, she boarded a plane heading for the Cannes Film Festival.

There she will be the star guest at a party for the American Foundation For Aids Research tomorrow night.

There were fears she might not make the event after she took a tumble in Bel Air, Los Angeles.

She was taken to hospital for a series of tests to ensure there was no lasting damage.

Miss Taylor is believed to have been released from hospital at the weekend.

A day later, settled in an airport wheelchair and smothered in diamonds, she boarded the flight to Cannes, smiling and waving to onlookers.

Sporting a new blonde hairstyle, a striking outfit and tinted sunglasses, she still managed to look every inch the Hollywood star.

Miss Taylor, 70 , has lost close friends to Aids, including the actor Rock Hudson. She h a s worked tirelessly for the foundation and most of her public appearances have been on its behalf.

'Elizabeth was determined to go to Cannes to support the charity,' an insider said. 'She did have a fall at her house in Bel Air and she went for some tests at the hospital, but doctors allowed her to go.'
