Pets Meet Wildlife In North Caldwell; Cops Issue Advisory

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — Police in North Caldwell issued a “wildlife notification” on Thursday after two incidents involving household pets and wild animals were reported in the township.

The incidents took place Wednesday evening, North Caldwell police said.

In their advisory, police reminded pet owners to be aware of their surroundings and keep their furry friends on leashes.

The NCPD stated:

“Two incidents between household pets and wildlife were reported in the borough during the evening of January 15, 2020. It is mating season for some species of animals common to our area which may lead to a rise in sightings of foxes and coyotes. Please remember to be aware of your surroundings when walking pets and keep them on leashes. Also keep an eye on your pets when letting them outdoors, even in yards. Traps have been placed where permitted by the NJDEP Department of Forestry and Wildlife. North Caldwell Animal Control is on constant canvass in the borough. Please refer to the Animal Control Notice regarding wildlife posted on the home page of the Borough’s website at www.northcaldwell.org for more information.
