From the Town of Westport: Connecticut sculptor Jesse Nusbaum has been invited to display his life-sized heads of a Spanish Fighting Bull, a German Shepherd, an English Bulldog and smaller pieces including an American Bear, African Elephant and African Rhino at this year’s Guilford Art Center’s annual Craft Expo, being held July 19-21 on the Guilford Green.

In addition, Nusbaum, 29, will explain his sculpting technique, starting with a block of clay and every step that goes into completing the sculpture in bronze. “It starts with a three-dimensional vision of the animal I choose to sculpt. This internal blueprint stays with me throughout the entire creative process. Once my sculpture mirrors the image I created in my mind, I know I have successfully fulfilled my mission,” explained Nusbaum.

In honor of its 62nd year, the Guilford Art Center’s annual Craft Expo celebrates the arts with its extensive array of handmade crafts by American artists. Craft Expo 2019 will bring 180 nationally-recognized craft artists to Guilford, whose works help rank this event as one of the top craft shows in New England and the country. All work presented at Craft Expo is handmade by the artists, all of whom have been invited to display their artwork by a panel of jurors, thereby ensuring only the highest quality in workmanship, design and materials.

Nusbaum’s bronze animal sculptures also were showcased at Red Dot Miami 2018 during Miami Art Week. His work was a highlight of the show, engaging art media, art aficionados and art collectors alike. “Jesse’s sculptures were one of the reasons the exhibition garnered the Best New Exhibitor Award and Spotlight Award for the show,” according to Linda Mariano, managing director of marketing at Red Dot, and all of Redwood Media group.

Nusbaum appears in a new book entitled, “100 Artists of the Future.” His work is scheduled to appear later this year in “International Contemporary Masters,” published by World Wide Art Books.

Nusbaum also has been selected to collaborate with world-renowned Spanish artist Fernando Cid de Diego to design and to create a sculpture for a proposed new museum dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr. in Atlanta, Ga.

Several of his sculptures appear in another book entitled, “Important World Artists: A World of Art V. 3,” published last November. He is one of 79 artists and one of only seven sculptors featured in this book.

In addition to sculpting, Nusbaum has taught drawing, painting and sculpting to public school students in Fairfield County, Conn. He continues to conduct private lessons at his studio in Weston and also mentors numerous artists on how to navigate the art world, particularly sculpting.
