There will be no joy in Mud-hutville this summer, as the Santa Fe Fuego's home and away schedule has been canceled. Citing the COVID-19 outbreak, the Pecos League, a 12-team independent baseball league with teams in Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Texas and New Mexico, announced Thursday that its Mountain Division will take the entire season off. "With the current situation it will be impossible for the Pecos League to utilize host families and renew sponsors required to operate a season," the league said on its website. There will be a team playing this season as the Santa Fe Fuego, but all their games will be played in Houston against four other teams in a modified Central Division. New Mexico's other Pecos League team, the Roswell Invaders, will also play its games in Houston. The 36-game season is scheduled to start July 1. A Pacific Division will "attempt" to play games, according to the league, in September or October.
