One person died in an early morning house fire in West Finley Township, Washington County.
The fire broke out shortly before 2 a.m. Monday at a house on Beham Ridge Road.
"I could hear noises, and like screams and bangs," said neighbor Cheyenne Powell. "I wasn't sure what it was. I came out and looked out the window and could see huge fire."
Powell's family called 911 and several fire departments responded to the scene.
"It was completely engulfed," said neighbor Mary Powell. "I called 911 and told them that the neighbor's house was on fire and they said there would be multiple fire trucks on the way."
Firefighters said one person was outside the home when they got there, but a man asleep on the top floor was trapped. The Powell's said they heard the screams for help.
"You could tell the people were very obviously in peril and terrified," said Cheyenne Powell.
Firefighters said it was too dangerous to go inside.
"(It was) fully involved," said Chief Eric Graham of the West Alexander Volunteer Fire Company. "Every level of the structure. Out of every opening we had fire. We had a partial roof collapse and second story collapse on the building upon our arrival."
The victim has not yet been identified. Firefighters said there were no working smoke detectors inside the home.
A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, but say it doesn't appear suspicious.
