A bomb in the Shiite village of Sitra killed two Bahraini police officers Tuesday, AFP reported, only days after the country said it had foiled an attempted arms smuggling plot connected with Iran.

The Interior Ministry said another six police officers were wounded, including one in critical condition.

On Saturday the country recalled its ambassador to Iran after the government said it had foiled a plot to smuggle arms and explosives by two Bahrainis who had links to Iran.

Bahrain has often accused Iran of creating civil unrest in the kingdom. While Iran denies the interference, it supports Shiite opposition groups seeking for more rights in their areas, according to AFP.
