More Iowa counties are showing a high coronavirus positivity rate as the state reported another 992 new COVID-19 cases and eight additional deaths Saturday.As of 10 a.m. Saturday, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported 85,425 total positive coronavirus cases, 65,440 total recoveries and 1,311 total deaths since the pandemic began. As of 10 a.m. Friday, IDPH had reported 84,433 total positive cases and 1,303 total deaths.IDPH data shows 771,758 Iowans have been tested for the virus. There were 6,376 lab test results received by the state in the previous day, with 694 positive cases. Iowa reports a 9.3% positivity rate over the last 14 days.There are 16 Iowa counties reporting a positivity rate greater than 15% over the last 14 days, up from 15 the previous day. Public schools in Sioux, Lyon, Osceola, Henry, Audubon, Crawford, Sac, Plymouth, Fremont, Delaware, Dubuque, Woodbury, Palo Alto, O’Brien, Cherokee and Ida counties can apply for a waiver to provider 100% virtual learning. Sioux, Lyon, Osceola, Henry, Audubon and Crawford counties report a positivity rate greater than 20%. The positivity rate continues to climb in Sioux County, with a 32.5% rate.The Iowa Department of Public Health said it is updating COVID-19 antigen test results reported on coronavirus.iowa.gov to include nearly 27,000 tests from long-term care facilities conducting surveillance testing as required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.“Results will be uploaded to the reporting system over the weekend, which will increase the number of individual test results and the number of antigen tests currently reported on the state’s website,” the department said in a news release. “Of the nearly 27,000 antigen test results included in the update, approximately 300 tests are positive, a positivity rate of 1.1%.”The state reports coronavirus outbreaks in 50 long-term care facilities, unchanged from the previous day. There are 1,046 positive cases and 640 recoveries within those facilities. IDPH reports 684 deaths within Iowa’s long-term care facilities, accounting for more than half of the state’s COVID-19 deaths.IDPH data continues to show an increase in coronavirus hospitalizations. There are currently 334 hospitalized with COVID-10, up from 330 the previous day and up from 269 on September 19. There are 84 patients listed in intensive care, down from 87 the previous day. There are 29 patients on ventilators, down from 35 the previous day. There were 57 patients admitted in the last 24 hours, down from 69 the previous day. IDPH reported approximately 2,870 inpatient beds available, with 410 ICU beds and 758 ventilators available.The Iowa Department of Public Health reports coronavirus statistics in real time on this website.
