Tigers complete sweep of Chetek

NHS girls improve to 8-1, boys win seventh straight

The Northwestern High School basketball teams pulled off a two-day sweep of the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Bulldog with the boys winning 73-71 at Chetek on Thursday, Jan. 9, and the girls winning 72-30 at home on Friday, Jan. 10.

Girls hoops

The Tigers (8-1 overall, 5-1 in the Heart O’North Conference) got scoring from nine different girls, including four in double figures.

Brooke Ogren led the way with 13 points, Tieryn Plasch and Jayda Klobucher both had 11, and Karsyn Jones added 10.

Klobucher also had 10 rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocked shots; Ogren had six rebounds and three assists; and Kennedy Nelson had six points with a team-high six assists and three steals.

The Bulldogs (1-9, 0-6) were led by Maggie Reisner’s 16 points.

The Tigers play at Ashland at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and Bloomer at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16.

Boys hoops

The Tigers picked up their seventh straight win with their road victory.

Northwestern (7-3, 5-1) led 36-23 at the half, but the Bulldogs made things interesting by outscoring the Tigers 48-37 in the second half.

Northwestern’s well-balanced attack was led by Dayne Evanson’s 16 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Andrew Klobucher added 14 points with eight rebounds and three steals; Harrison Nelson also had 14 points, with three assists and two steals; Jake Brill had 13 points; and Nolan Gustafson had nine points with six assists.

Carter Hanson and Kyle Bilodeau led the Bulldogs (4-4, 3-3) with 29 and 21 points, respectively.

The Tigers host Barron on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and play at Cameron on Friday, Jan. 17. Both games begin at 7:15 p.m.
