Laurie, Good story.  What I have seen is the bad guys behind the attacks also hide on the net by using ICANN privacy rules. In the past five years or so, the bad guys buy super cheap domain names from several Registars.  They then buy privcy for each of the domains. Then they attack websites and no one can seek them out.  The solution which might not be popular is to raise the price for domain name priacy by a large amount. There are a bunch of other security measures that should take place but likely will not happen. Why? Because ICANN wants to protect their money source over protecting the world's end users.
