"Pen and Paint: The Art of Gary Simmons and Richard Stephens," works by Hot Springs artists Gary Simmons (drawings) and Richard Stephens (watercolors), opens Tuesday at the Hot Springs Convention Center, 134 Convention Blvd., Hot Springs. Burning bright?

TIGER, a solo performance combining video, sound and storytelling by Deke Weaver, will be onstage at 12:15 p.m. Monday in the Black Box Theatre at the Center for Humanities and Arts, University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College's main campus, 3000 W. Scenic Drive, North Little Rock.

The "travelogue, '70's slide show, sing-along, seance and TEDtalk/Parisian salon all at once" is the fifth part of a project, The Unreliable Bestiary: a performance for every letter of the alphabet — each letter representing an endangered animal or habitat, for Weaver, an artist and faculty member at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Movie at MacArthur

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History in MacArthur Park, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, will screen the documentary Black Hawk Down: The Untold Story, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, part of the museum's monthly "Movies at MacArthur" series. The documentary details the rescue by the 2nd Battalion 14th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, of special operations forces following an ambush in 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia. Two soldiers were killed and 18 wounded. Retired Air Force Col. Randall Larsen, the documentary's executive producer and director, will attend. Admission, popcorn and beverages are free. History symposium

The Arkansas State Archives will present a symposium, "1819-1836: A History of Territorial Arkansas," 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 26, at MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History in MacArthur Park, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock.

Theo Witsell, chief of research and inventory of the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, will discuss Thomas Nuttall's exploration of Arkansas. Charles Bolton, history professor emeritus at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, will present "Federal Aid and the Infrastructure of Arkansas Territory." Callie Williams, education and outreach coordinator with the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, will discuss Territorial era buildings; and author and historian Gary Pinkerton will talk about Trammel's Trace.

The traveling exhibit, "Territorial Arkansas: The Wild Western Frontier" will be on display. The symposium is the culmination of Arkansas Archives Month. Admission is free and includes lunch; reservations are required by Oct. 20 by calling (501) 682-6900 or online at archives.arkansas.gov.

Stoner icons redux

Stoner icons Jay and Silent Bob, played respectively by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith, return to movie theaters with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Colonel Glenn 18 and Movie Tavern in Little Rock and the Tinseltown in Benton. Visit FathomEvents.com.

Mewes and Smith return to the roles they created in 1994's Clerks as they discover that Hollywood is rebooting an old movie based on them and once again embark on a cross-country mission to stop it. The screening includes a special pre-recorded video introduction from Mewes and Smith and exclusive bonus content. The first 50 people through the doors at each location will receive a limited-edition poster.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, the same theaters will screen a special double feature of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The same characters have also appeared in Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Clerks 2.

Globetrotters tickets
