Bahrain's Interior Ministry says a policeman who lost his life in a blast southwest of the capital Manama was a Jordanian officer who was present in the kingdom under a security exchange program.
Corporal Ali Mohammed Ali was killed on duty after a remote-controlled explosive went off in the village of Damistan on Monday.
Bahraini authorities have described the bombing as a “terrorist” attack, with Foreign Minister Khalid al-Khalifa claiming that Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah was behind it.
There has been no comment by the resistance movement in Lebanon on the Bahraini official’s claim yet.
Bahrain, which hosts the Fifth Fleet of the US Navy, has been witnessing anti-regime protests since 2011. Over the past four years, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held numerous demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.
Many Bahrainis have been tortured or killed and hundreds more injured and arrested during the regime’s ongoing crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.
