The number of active COVID-19 cases in Brazos County surpassed 2,000 for the first time on Tuesday as health officials reported 230 new cases among county residents.
The number of active cases in the county on Tuesday was 2,210. Health officials said 4,378 cases of the virus reported by health care systems and testing centers were awaiting confirmation Tuesday.
A Texas A&M University website said there were 940 active, self-reported cases of the virus among students, faculty members and staff as of Saturday, the last date for which figures were posted. The latest figures were down from a high of 1,635 cases reported on campus on Sept. 10.
Brazos County officials have confirmed 29,464 cases of COVID-19 in the county since the pandemic began more than a year ago.
Officials with the Brazos County Health District said 26,945 cases were considered recovered as of Tuesday; health officials classify all cases older than two weeks as recovered.

Fifty-one Brazos County residents were hospitalized Tuesday for treatment of symptoms related to the virus, officials said.
The percentage of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in the state’s Trauma Service Area N — Brazos County and six surrounding counties — was 19.93% on Monday, the last day for which figures were reported by the state. Other counties in the Brazos Valley region are Burleson, Robertson, Grimes, Madison, Washington and Leon.
There were 117 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the seven-county Brazos Valley region on Tuesday, including 13 patients who had been admitted in the past 24 hours, according to the Department of State Health Services. Twenty-two COVID-19 patients were on ventilators in the region, and there were no intensive care unit beds available in the region. Of the 587 staffed hospital beds in the region, 39 were available Tuesday, according to state figures.
Across the state, 11,658 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients were hospitalized Tuesday.
Brazos County’s positivity rate — the percent of positive cases to tests — was 8% on Tuesday.
Health officials said 368,338 tests for COVID-19 had been administered by Brazos County health care providers since the pandemic began.
There were 18 new probable COVID-19 cases reported in Brazos County on Tuesday. To date, health officials have reported 4,745 total probable cases.
To date, 309 Brazos County residents have died after testing positive for COVID-19, according to health department figures.
Brazos Valley
The DSHS reported 2,464 cases in Burleson County on Tuesday, an increase of 11 cases from the day before. Of those, 169 were active; 55 Burleson County residents have died since the pandemic began, according to state figures.
Grimes County on Tuesday reported 4,439 cases, 33 more than the prior day, according to the DSHS website. There have been 92 Grimes County residents who have died from the virus, and 274 cases were reported as active Tuesday.
According to the DSHS, Leon County reported 1,729 cases on Tuesday, 12 more than the day before. Officials said 189 cases were active; 55 deaths have been attributed to the virus in the county.
Madison County reported 2,034 cases on Tuesday, six more than the number of cases reported Monday. Of those, 77 cases were active and 40 virus-related deaths have been reported, according to DSHS figures.
Milam County reported 2,026 cases on Tuesday, an increase of 26 from the day before. Of those, 199 cases were active. Sixty-nine Milam County residents have died from the virus, according to the state.
In Robertson County, there were 2,276 cases on Tuesday, 11 more than the day before; 155 cases were active. There have been 60 deaths attributed to the virus, state officials reported.
Washington County was reporting 4,415 cases on Tuesday, 49 more than the day before. Of those, 333 were active. State figures show 115 Washington County residents have died after contracting the virus.
The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District reported 1,423 active cases of the virus and seven new virus-related deaths in the county on Tuesday. To date, 615 people have died in the county after contracting COVID-19, according to department figures.
Statewide
On Tuesday, 10,534 new cases of COVID-19 and 346 virus-related deaths were reported in Texas.
The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the state was nearly 3.3 million, according to state figures.
State officials said 61,178 Texans have died of COVID-19 as of Tuesday.
