A Scottish technology company is aiming to increase production of a novel foam after raising £3.1 million in new funding.

Integrated Graphene, based in Stirling, has developed Gii, a product that it describes as a 3D graphene foam.

Graphene typically comprises a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb pattern that is much stronger than steel. It is light, flexible and an extremely efficient conductor of electricity. However, it is not yet widely used as it is a relatively new material and can be expensive to manufacture in large quantities.

Integrated Graphene has developed a manufacturing process for its foam and believes that the product can be produced cost-effectively. The foam can be sprayed directly on to surfaces where graphene is needed, which
