Equity, diversity and inclusion are becoming more of a focus for communicating science

A review of 40 years of science communication research has found there has been a definite increase in awareness and attention to issues of equity, diversity and inclusion, especially in the last five years. However,  the authors say this attention is scattered and often focuses on what science communication is doing for under-served communities, rather than how best to work with them, reinforcing the status quo of science as something for white, Western, able-bodied audiences. They say evidence like this is vital if science communication wants to meaningfully fulfil its role in society, for all society members.
